Honduras Ruben Ramos Parainema Natural

from £10.95

Ruben’s farm is called ‘Finca Durazno” (The Peach) because Peach trees were already growing there in 1991 when he started to grow coffee.

To start with he grew Catuai and Caturra but lost all the trees to leaf rust in 2012/13. He replanted in 2014 with Lempira, which was thought to be rust resistant, but doesn’t taste quite as good. In 2016 he invested in planting Parainema at 1350m above sea level, which is at the high point go the farm. This is harvested for the first time in 2019, and he sells the washed coffee, the usual process here, like any other coffee at 50c per pound.

He met Mauro Rodriguez in 2020 and Mauro visited his farm. He joined the co-operative where Mauro is president and now sells his coffee to them. When Mauro received his coffee in 2021 he could see how good it was, so told him that he could help him with processing to improve the coffee more. He also told him about his friend David in the UK who might buy the coffee. They sent me a sample, I liked it, and I bought it!

Thanks to his membership of the COMISUYL co-operative they were able to provide a poly tunnel drying area so that he can dry his coffee properly - this is what he has used for this coffee this year.
