Although I have made really tasty coffee with a sieve, some kitchen roll and a flask, proper equipment tends to be the better way to do it, in all honesty.

Partnering with my friends at Penny & Merriwether, I’ve brought together a collection of branded products that I think look great, do a brilliant job, and add value to your coffee making. These are live on the website now and are fulfilled directly by Penny & Meriwether.

Fellow Products, based in California, produce some exquisite equipment. Stylish, ergonomic and practical; I’ve really developed a bit of a love for them.

First up is the Carter Move travel mug. I’ve been using this on my travels recently - it’s slim enough to fit in the cupholder in the car, the lid fits tightly enough not to spill as I jostle around on the tube or on train station platforms, and the double-wall insulation keeps my coffee hot until I decide to open it. There’s also a cool propeller-like insert to prevent splashes.

Next is the Atmos canister. This removes the oxygen and vacuum seals my coffee into a cool, dark, airtight jar. Perfect. I use this to decant my beans into once I have opened the packaging to make sure that they stay as fresh as possible. I have the smaller, 0.7litre size, but if you buy the 500g bags, the 1.2 litre is the one to go for. Only works for beans mind, don’t put your ground coffee in there, it’ll choke it up!

The Stagg EKG temperature control kettle is beautiful. Ergonomic handle, precise temperature control, flow-restricted spout -you can REALLY control the water for brewing a V60 with this. I’ve been using it at my cupping table too, where it’s been awesome.

We’ve also created a teflon-coated milk pitcher, in case you want to work on your latte art.

I remember reading about the Ember mug a few years ago, and thinking it was ridiculous to have a £100 mug that kept your coffee at the right temperature, but I KINDA want one! Especially now that I regularly pour coffee, go off to do something vitally important and am then left with the Sophie’s choice of drinking stale, cold coffee or microwaving it when I get back to it later. Maybe if you have someone in your life who finds their coffee goes cold, this would be a good birthday present for them?

Finally, Coming Soon is the Comandante grinder. I love my Comandante, it is my go-to travel grinder, producing results I would expect from something much more expensive. Hand grinders can be a bit of a pain in the ar…m but this works so well, can grind so effortlessly quickly and produces such great results, I never begrudge the little bit of right wrist action it takes to make it work.

As time goes by, I plan to add a few more bits to the accessories collection, but until then, if you see something you like the look of, please feel free to pick it up and check it out, and the good people at Penny & Meriwether will be happy to send it out to you.
